Police reached Imran Khan PTI residence to arrest him
In order to arrest former prime minister Imran Khan PTI in the Toshakana case, the only one in which his arrest warrants are not suspended, a large police contingent arrived at Zaman Park on Tuesday. As they approached the location, law enforcement officers and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members began to fight.
The PTI chairman requested that his team members continue the battle for the "rule of law," make sure that they do so no matter what, and take to the streets in response to the development.
PTI activists have responded by staging demonstrations in a number of important cities, including Karachi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Vehari, Peshawar, Quetta, and Mianwali.
Since yesterday, a squad of Islamabad police has been present in Lahore to carry out court-ordered arrests of the PTI chairman, who is charged with multiple offences in various cities.
While exercising caution, the riot police are dispersing the party members as they advance in their efforts to apprehend Khan by using water cannons and tear gas.
Since a district and sessions court in Islamabad on Monday reinstated the former prime minister's non-bailable arrest notice in the Toshakhana case, law enforcement officials are in Zaman Park in accordance with court orders.
Last week, the IHC ordered Khan to appear before the lower court on March 13 after suspending the non-bailable arrest warrant that had been issued by the local court as a result of the PTI chief's ongoing absenteeism. However, Khan disobeyed the orders once more.
The cops have shown up at Zaman Park to arrest the ousted prime minister twice in less than ten days.
14 police officers were hurt when the party's supporters started throwing stones at one another, including DIG Operations Rawalpindi Shahzad Bukhari. The PTI employees have also been detained by law enforcement in the interim.
Seeking a "possible path out"
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the PTI, said that the leadership is prepared to find a "possible way out" to stop the violence between the party's supporters and the authorities.
During a news conference at Zaman Park, the vice chairman of the PTI requested that the police not "worsen the situation" and speak with the party's leadership.
I want to see the subpoena. I'll read it and comprehend it first. The senior PTI leader informed the police that he would then talk with Imran Khan and his attorneys.
The PTI official argued that Khan has a protective bail granted by the court and characterised the police action as an unreasonable response to yesterday's rally.
If someone has a protective bond, "an arrest cannot be made," according to Qureshi. The PTI official also inquired about the possibility of delaying the upcoming elections.
Commenting on the police action, he insisted that they had a plan for "bloodshed" when they got at Zaman Park.
The PTI official said that if the authorities would "talk to us, maybe we will willingly surrender" in an effort to open a line of communication.
He insisted that the cops had searched the Khan's home and added that they were determined to harm him.
Farrukh Habib, the leader of the PTI, warned journalists that Khan was in "danger" with today's action.
We don't want to place Imran Khan in any danger of losing his life.
In the judge-threatening case, the court suspended arrest warrants; according to Habib, the warrants for which the police are present will also be delayed.
"Let's capture him first," said DIG Operations Islamabad. The police party that has encircled Khan's home in the affluent section of the city is being led by Shahzad Bukhari.
The police officer stated to the media: "We have come to comply with the warrant. We are aware of the case's specifics but cannot disclose.
After you capture Imran Khan, where will you take him? the reporter questioned the official.
DIG Bukhari responded, "Let's first arrest him and then we'll tell the public," to this.
In a tweet, the Islamabad police also threatened to take legal action against anyone interfering with the execution of court orders relating to the arrest of the PTI leader.
Allies of the coalition criticise Khan
PML-N Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz reacted to the police action by saying that the nation's sons were doing their job.
In reference to the ongoing altercations between PTI members and security employees, Maryam claimed that Khan would be held accountable if any police officers were hurt.
Later, Maryam made fun of Khan for "hiding inside his home" to avoid being arrested while speaking to the PML-N workers' convention in Sheikhupura. Additionally, she accused the PTI leader of playing politics over the murder of Zille Shah, a PTI employee who was killed earlier this week.
In response to the clashes, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said in a statement that Lahore is currently the scene of a "game" being performed for "ego" purposes.
Attaullah Tarar, the special assistant to the prime minister for interior and legal affairs, urged the PTI leader to come out of hiding at his home, act like a man, and get himself arrested during a news conference.
In order to rule out the federal cabinet's participation in the PTI chief's arrest, Tarar stated that Imran Khan had turned his employees into his shields and was refusing to leave his bunker.
The government is not powerless. You should always exercise care. The special assistant referred to the PTI leader as "the most cowardly person" and stated that everything was being done in accordance with the law.
The IHC registrar's office objects to Khan's request
The IHC registrar's office objected to Khan's request to have the arrest order in the Toshakhana case revoked.
Khan's attorney submitted the plea earlier today at the IHC and asked the court's administration to schedule a hearing before a bench for today.
The ousted prime minister, according to the IHC registrar's office, did not perform biometric verification.
Tomorrow is the hearing date for the appeal against Khan's arrest order, and IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq will preside over it. The registrar's office objections will also be addressed at the hearing tomorrow.
